5,000 Households Connected Through NOR Mini-Grid Electrification Programme

NOR Group's flagship rural electrification programme has reached a significant milestone with 5,000 households now connected to clean, reliable electricity through a network of solar-powered mini-grids deployed across communities in northern Nigeria.

Programme Overview

The Mini-Grid Electrification Programme, led by NOR Green Investments, deploys containerised solar-plus-storage mini-grid systems to off-grid and underserved communities. Each system typically serves 200-500 households and provides reliable power for lighting, phone charging, refrigeration, and small commercial activities.

To date, the programme has deployed 15 mini-grid systems across Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states, with 10 additional systems planned for deployment by the end of 2026.

Impact Metrics

The programme has delivered measurable impact: 5,000 households connected with average 18-hour daily electricity access, 2,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided annually compared to diesel alternatives, 320 small businesses powered including shops, tailoring, and cold storage, and 45 schools and health centres electrified.

Scaling the Model

NOR Group is working with development partners and state governments to scale the model across additional states. The programme has attracted interest from international climate funds as a replicable model for sustainable energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Group is also exploring integration of productive-use equipment (milling machines, water pumps, ice-making) to enhance the economic viability and impact of mini-grid installations.
